GOOD AS IT GETS is a beautiful example of the classic downeast sports express cruiser designed by Mark Ellis and built by Mark Bruckmann. Twin Yanmar diesels provide plenty of power for cruising speeds in the mid to upper 20s and a top speed over 30. The layout is great with a private owners stateroom forward with centerisland bed, private access to the head and shower, a large dinette for four, galley to port under the overhang of the windshield and a large bridgedeck area with helm to stbd, convertible L-settee to port and double settee to stbd. The Bruckmann Bluestar 36.6 is a fabulous one couple express downeast styled cruising boat which can accommodate up to six for an overnight. There is a beautiful, private, owner cabin forward with extra large center island berth both long and wide. There is a convertible dinette as well as a convertible L-shaped settee on the bridgedeck for additional guests.
The interior features gloss varnished teak doors and trim, satin varnished cherry hull ceiling strips, and a satin varnished teak and holly sole. The bulkheads are white ifor the traditional Herreshoff style. Stainless steel opening ports have curtains. Overhead deck hatches have custom screens. Overhead lights have red and white light switches. There are polished chrome tulip reading lights. Fans are located around the boat.
The head is accessible directly from the owner cabin and from the main salon. There is an electric, fresh-water flush EcoVac head, polished stainless steel sink, soap dispenser, mirror, shower, teak grate, and an opening port and overhead hatch provide plenty of light and air.
To stardboard there is a large dinette with benches facing forward and aft. This appears to convert to a double berth. A bar locker cabinet is on the aft bulkhead.
To port is a U-shaped galley under the overhang of the windshield for a bright cathedral ceiling effect. Features include Corian countertop, Isotherm 12vDC under counter refrigerator, Sylvania microwave oven, Force 10 two burner propane cooktop with cutting board, two basin polished stainless steel sink and a surprising amount of storage in lockers and bins and silverware drawer.
There are three steps leading to the helmdeck. The electrical breaker panel and battery selector switches are here and very intuitive. There is a door that can be closed to block the stairs for safety underway.
On the helmdeck there is a sliding double bench helm seat to stbd, The helm is well laid out. A stainless steel destroyer wheel and single lever engine controls within easy reach. A two seat bench aft to stbd has an insulated cooler ice box under with a drain. There is a long L-settee to port which converts to a double bed. A removable varnished table is fitted at the settee and a beautiful varnished chart table is fwd. There is glass all around with sliders to port and stbd, a center vent window in the windshield and drop curtains at the back with clear eisenglass. There are screens for the sliding windows and for the opening portlights around the boat.
Aft in the cockpit there is a long fwd facing bench on the transom and a two seat bench facing aft. Coaming pads are varnished and the toe rails and teak eye brow are varnished as well. Wide side decks make going forward very comfortable with a stainless double bow rail and stainless steel grab rails. A teak swim platform with ladder is great for swimming or boarding from a dinghy.
